It's been 9 months since I posted anything; I can only apologise. Quite a bit's happened in that time. I intended this as a music blog, but I can't really justify its existence solely in that capacity. I imagine it will still be that for the main part though. I'm not promising to post regularly, because that would involve me having more time than I actually do, but I will try to write stuff more regularly.
So, in the last 9 months I've done a whole pile of stuff. I got a new job, leaving my first teaching post for pastures new and more challenging; part of this involves me teaching A level English Language, which is brilliant. I always considered myself a student of literature, but I'm finding this considerably more interesting than anything literary I've done since graduating way back in 2004.
The only downside (and in itself, it's quite the opposite) is that my commute has been cut in half; this was my prime music-consumption time, and it's been reduced to a mere 20 minute blast up the motorway. Luckily, I've started going to the gym in an effort to see 50, so that's taken over.
I've moved house too. I live in suburbia and it's nice and quiet. That's kind of boring (not for me, I love it, but it's hardly interesting to read about).
I joined a new band. We're called Cue Tigers and I hope you like us. The stuff on there was done completely in-house (mostly in Will's house, as it happens, and also in The Mill, which is a bit like a house but much worse), and we're proud of it. It's the most fun I've ever had being in a band, and the lack of stress and pressure is both novel and refreshing.
Then, ta-da, I became a dad again. Baby Number Two is called Althea and she's lovely, and snotty. She's asleep next to me on the sofa, propped up so the snot has somewhere to go. Such incredible snot.
I've also listened to a fair amount of new (to me) music; some of the highlights of which are:
The Band
Sufjan Stevens
The Replacements
Titus Andronicus
Jay Reatard
Wu-Tang Clan (specifically GZA and Raekwon)
Toots and the Maytals
Augustus Pablo
Grinderman
So yeah. I guess I'll have more to say next time I sit down with a few beers and run my mouth off about something. I might buy a couple more Sufjan Stevens records and write about him.
